Construction Worker in Benicia Recovering after Steel Beam Accident

By Kelly Balamuth on January 2, 2013

A young construction worker is recovering in the hospital after a three-ton steel beam fell onto his legs while working in Benicia. The Benicia Patch reports that the man had been pinned underneath the beam for about a minute after falling from its chain-and-hook grip while being lifted with a crane. A co-worker used the crane to move the colossal steel beam off of the victim, and fire crews responded to the report around 9:20 a.m. at the Unico Mechanical Corp.

Fire crews provided care to the man, who remained alert and conscious, and was then transported to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The young worker suffered severe injuries to both legs but is fortunately expected to survive. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health will survey the accident site to determine whether it will conduct an investigation, according to a spokesman.

Unico Mechanical is a heavy industrial machine shop that provides services including restorations, repairs, and part manufacturing.

A construction accident of any kind has the potential to seriously injure workers and leave them with a lengthy, and often painful, road to recovery. The Solano County construction accident injury lawyers of Balamuth Law understand the serious nature of construction site injuries and the need for proper benefits in order to get the appropriate medical treatment needed to recuperate.
