Ford Recalls Over 26,000 Vehicles for Faulty Tail Lights
Ford has announced a recall of 26,715 of its trucks and SUVs due to a malfunction with the exterior tail lights, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects service parts that were distributed to dealers as well as recently manufactured vehicles. The defect is in the multi-function switch for 2002-2007 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks, as well as the switch for 2002-2005 Excursions. Switches given to dealers for 2004-2011 Rangers and 2011 Ranger trucks that were made between January 25, 2011 and April 25, 2011 are also part of the recall.
The recall was prompted after it was discovered that the switches have a subcomponent that may malfunction, causing the turn signals, tail lights, hazard lights, and brake lights to stop working. As these important signal lights are essential to alert other drivers to the vehicle’s movements, the loss of function in these lights could lead to a car accident.
Ford says that the recall should begin on August 15 and vehicle owners can have the switch replaced at a dealer for free. For additional information, contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or Ford’s Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.
