Case Name: Christina Doe v. Law Firm
Summary: Christina Doe's husband Jon was badly hurt in a car wreck. Jon and Christina retained the Law Firm to represent him on his personal injury claims. For nearly two years, Christine gave the law firm details about how Jon's injuries affected her and her relationship with him. Law Firm filed a lawsuit on Jon's behalf against the driver who hit him. It never informed Christina that she had a "loss of consortium" claim, which the spouse of an injured party can bring for harm to the spouse and the couple's relationship. Christina learned that she had lost her rights to a loss of consortium claim after the statute of limitations had run. Jon eventually settled his car crash lawsuit for $1.375 million. Christina sued Law Firm and its partners for failing to protect her rights.
