Target Recalls 300,000+ Blenders for Laceration Danger
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that retail mega chain Target is recalling approximately 304,000 of their Chefmate 6 Speed Blender due to dangers involving cuts and laceration.
According to the CPSC, the blender poses the danger for laceration because a product defect can cause the plastic container to come apart from the blade piece, exposing the blade and leaving the user vulnerable to potentially serious cuts during use. The agency and Target have reported eleven accidents involving the product; seven accounts were of serious cuts to users’ hands and fingers.
From September to February, the product was available at Target stores across the country for around $14. The Minneapolis, MN, corporation served as the importer: Lenaxa, KS, Select Brands is the manufacturer; and the item was manufactured in China. The recall is effective for all units of model BL-10 Chefmate 6 Speed Blender. The unit features a clear blender container with white plastic components (including the electrical base, top, and blade apparatus). The product name “Chefmate” is printed in black lettering on the front side.
Consumers are advised by the CPSC to discontinue using the product at once and contact Target’s customer service department for information on refund or replacement options. For those people injured by defective or dangerous products, refunds or replacements are sometimes not enough for the injury or trauma suffered. It’s every manufacturer’s duty to design and create safe products for consumer use. If you’ve suffered an injury that was the result of a defective or dangerous product, contact the California defective product attorneys with Balamuth Harrington at 1-888-254-1234 for a free review of your case.
