Toddler Drowns in Fountain at San Francisco Hotel
A tragic accident occurred at a San Francisco hotel recently when a toddler drowned in a fountain in the hotel’s lobby, according to The San Francisco Examiner.
The 18-month-old boy was at the hotel with his mother, nanny, and his twin sister. While the adults were taking pictures of the hotel’s holiday decorations, he fell into a fountain that was two feet deep. He was reported missing, and a security guard found him eight minutes later floating in the water.
The fountain has only two inches of water in its upper level, which flows down into the lower level of the fountain, where the toddler was found. Emergency personnel attempted to revive the boy on the way to the hospital, and were successful. However, he died at a local hospital three days later from injuries that he suffered in the accident. The San Francisco Police Department has investigated the incident and pronounced it an accident.
Although the hotel in this particular accident may not be to blame for the incident, property owners and businesses can be held legally responsible for any accidents that occur on their premises under premises liability laws. If a dangerous condition exists on property that the owners or occupants are aware of or should have known about, they can be liable for any accidents and resulting damages that are caused by that condition.
Property and business owners are responsible for ensuring that their premises are safe and do not present any unreasonable hazards to visitors or customers. If you or a loved one has been injured by a dangerous condition on another’s property, you could recover damages for hospital bills, medical expenses, lost wages, and more.
