Eureka Pedestrian Injured in Semi Truck Accident
A Eureka pedestrian was injured recently when he was hit by a semi truck while crossing a city street, according to a recent article in The Eureka Times-Standard.
The man was crossing Broadway Street near the Village Pantry Restaurant when the accident occurred. Onlookers saw him step into the road and tried to warn him about the oncoming truck by waving and shouting, but the pedestrian did not see or hear them in time to avoid the crash. He was using a walker at the time, but details about his age or medical condition have not yet been released. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The truck involved in the pedestrian accident was labeled “Brown Trucking, Ukiah,” but police have not yet commented on the driver or the company.
Large truck accidents involving pedestrians are relatively rare compared to other kinds of accidents, according to the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). In 2009, for instance, only seven truck-pedestrian accidents were recorded in the United States. This number is considerably lower than the number of car-pedestrian crashes that occur each year, and represents less than 1 percent of all semi-truck-related crashes.
Semi truck accidents are not as common as car accidents, but they can cause much more serious injuries and deaths when they do occur.
