Cyclist Killed in Contra Costa County Crash
A 40 year old Dublin man, cycling as part of a large group of at least 50 cyclists, was killed on December 27, 2014, when his bicycle collided with a water truck, according to ABC 7 News.
According to Officer Greg Hartt, there was a collision at the front of the pack, and as other riders were swerving to avoid the collision, the man crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with a water truck. The dead cyclist was wearing a helmet and riding a specialized bicycle, according to the CHP.
The truck driver saw the cyclists at the front of the pack crash, and veered to avoid them, but was unable to avoid hitting the cyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two more cyclists were injured in the incident, which occurred on Highland Road, a popular spot for weekend rides.
